Paparoa Track | Paparoa National Park

Get Outdoors Week #GoWeekNZ #docgovtnz

So good to hang with my brother and his mates for a few days on New Zealand's newest Great Walk. So new in fact, the Pike29 Memorial section was not yet complete! Can't wait to bring my family back (because this trip is excellent for families) and visit the mine entrance and pay respect to the boys.

We decided to make the most of the weather window and stayed at all 3 huts - Ces Clark (Croesus), Moonlight Tops & Pororari. Well what can I say. Although I reside on the Coast, I was simply stunned by the Paparoa Track. What I think struck me the most was its genius, modern design. This is New Zealand's first purpose built hybrid track (walking/biking) and was designed to flow with the landscape.Well, they nailed that. I’ve never experienced a track like this! ...and then there were the huts. I know from doing some reading on their construction that an immense amount of thought and consideration went into where the huts were built. You really do have to go there to truly appreciate the 360 degree views you get at both the Moonlight Tops and Pororari Huts. All 3 huts were manned by an enthusiastic, knowledgable and hilarious ranger (we were affectionately referred to us as 'the wrong carpark group'...owing to our car being parked at the wrong end - don't worry it's very difficult to get this wrong) What a trip. Oh man, I could write a novel but just go and experience it for yourself 🥾❤️
